Docs Features External databases

External databases

Connect Google Sheets, Airtable, or Notion as an external database and power Table, Repeater, Slideshow, Media Gallery, and Calendar in CMS for Harmony.

External databases let you power display widgets from a live Google Sheets spreadsheet, Airtable table, or Notion database instead of a Wix CMS collection.

Use case examples

  • Ops sheet → Table — Keep inventory in Google Sheets; show a searchable Table on the site.
  • Airtable CRM → Repeater — Publish a directory from an Airtable base without duplicating rows in Wix CMS.
  • Notion events → Calendar — Plot a Notion database of dates on a month/week calendar.

Requirements

  • One free connection — Free / Supporter sites can connect one external database. Upgrade to Pro for unlimited connections.
  • A supported source (see below).
  • Supported widgets: Table, Repeater, Slideshow, Media Gallery, and Calendar.

Not supported yet: Form and Dynamic Page stay on Wix CMS collections. Dynamic Page links and catalog payments are for Wix CMS collections, not external connections.

Connect a source (dashboard)

In the CMS for Harmony dashboard, open External databases and choose Connect external database, then pick a provider:

Google Sheets

  1. Pick a connect method:
    • Share with app — share the sheet with the app email as Viewer (no Google sign-in).
    • Public link — use a spreadsheet shared as “Anyone with the link can view”.
    • Sign in with Google — authorize your Google account (may show an unverified-app warning until Google verifies the app).
  2. Choose the spreadsheet and sheet (tab), or paste a sheet URL when using Share with app / Public link.
  3. Choose which columns to sync and confirm field types.
  4. Save.

Airtable

  1. Sign in with Airtable and grant read access to the bases you need.
  2. Choose a base and table.
  3. Choose which fields to sync and confirm field types.
  4. Save.

Notion

  1. Sign in with Notion and share the databases this app should read.
  2. Choose a database.
  3. Choose which properties to sync and confirm field types.
  4. Save.

The connection appears in External databases with provider, status, and synced field count. Later you can Manage fields, Resync from the source, open the source, or disconnect.

Use a connection in a widget

  1. Add Table, Repeater, Slideshow, Media Gallery, or Calendar.
  2. In the panel, set Data source to External Database.
  3. Select your connection — or Connect new database to open the dashboard flow and return with the new connection selected.
  4. Map fields (columns, card content, media, dates, and so on) as usual.
  5. Publish.

External-backed widgets support search, sort, and visitor filters where those widgets already do. Dynamic Page links and catalog payments stay on Wix CMS collections.

Notes

  • Google Sheets: first row is headers; empty header cells are skipped.
  • Airtable / Notion: field types come from the source schema (you can still override types when connecting or managing fields).
  • Resync updates field definitions when the source changes — review types after a resync if you renamed or added fields.
  • Keep using Wix CMS collections when you need Forms, Dynamic Pages and item page links, or catalog payments.
