Search, filters, & sort let visitors narrow and reorder large collections on the live site. Supported on Table, Repeater, Calendar, Media Gallery, and Slideshow (and the Harmony Repeater site component) — search and filters work with Wix CMS or an external database. Sort options apply to Wix CMS sources only.
Dynamic Page does not include a search bar or filter toolbar. It can use the same field filters (usually Fixed mode) to hide item content when the URL item does not match — see Dynamic Page → Filters.
Use case examples
- Catalog — Filter products by category, availability, or color swatches; share a filtered URL.
- Directory — Search names and filter by department.
- Events — Filter Calendar items by type while searching Title and Details; or lock a Repeater/Table to This calendar week with a custom Week starts on (for example Friday).
- Portfolio — Side filters on a Media Gallery or Repeater so visitors browse by tag.
Configure Search & filters
Where (v17+): Settings → Manual → open the Search, filters, & sort row on the overview (or use Search settings on Repeater).
- Turn on Show search bar to search text fields shown on the display (see widget notes below).
- Turn on Show filters and sort button if filters and sort should collapse behind a control.
Where (before v17): Settings → Search & filters (accordion) on the display widget.
- Turn on Show search bar to search text fields shown on the display (see widget notes below).
- Turn on Show filters button if filters should collapse behind a control.
Tip: Place parent filters higher in the list so dependent filters cascade correctly.
Visitor sort options {#visitor-sort}
Under Sort options, add one or more collection fields. On the live site, each sort gets its own direction control (ascending / descending). Sorts combine in list order — the first is primary, then tie-breakers. When the list is empty, items use Default sort by / Default sort order in Content.
Visitor sort is available on Table, Repeater, Calendar, Media Gallery, Slideshow, and Harmony Repeater when the data source is Wix CMS (not external databases).
Filter capabilities
- Match conditions per filter: equals, not equals, contains, starts/ends with, greater/less than, or between
- Multiple filters on the same field
- Date and number range controls
- Show filter vs Choose value: show a visitor control, or always apply a fixed value with no UI
- Reference and Multi-reference fields: equals / not equals, or includes / includes all, with options from the related collection — pick a Display field for option labels
- Color fields: filter with Color swatches (and other choice controls)
- Styled search and filter chrome using site fonts
Dependent filters
Turn on Dependent filter on a choice filter to limit its options to values that still exist after applying search and the filters listed above this one.
Relative date ranges {#relative-date-ranges}
On DATE or DATETIME fields in Choose value mode, set Value type to Relative range instead of typing fixed dates. The widget applies the range automatically on the live site (no visitor control).
| Range | What it includes |
|---|---|
| Today | The current calendar day |
| Next 7 days | Today through the following 6 days (7 days total) |
| Next 30 days | Today through the following 29 days |
| This calendar week | Seven days starting on the weekday you choose under Week starts on (Sunday through Saturday) |
| This calendar month | First through last day of the current calendar month |
Tip: For event listings that run Friday through Thursday, add a Choose value filter on your event date field, set Condition to Between, choose Relative range → This calendar week, and set Week starts on to Friday.
Date boundaries (timezone) {#relative-date-timezone}
When Value type is Relative range, Date boundaries controls which timezone defines “today” and midnight for the range:
| Option | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Visitor’s device (default) | Uses the visitor’s browser calendar — good when your audience spans many regions. |
| Site timezone | Uses the time zone in Wix Settings → Website settings → Time zone (for example America/Denver). Every visitor sees the same cutoff, including daylight saving changes. |
| Fixed timezone | Pick any IANA zone from the dropdown (offset label + zone id, for example GMT-6 — America/Denver). |
After you set the range, Week starts on (when applicable), and Date boundaries, the panel shows a live preview of the effective filter (for example Between Friday, Oct 24, 2025, 12:00 AM GMT-6 and Thursday, Oct 30, 2025, 11:59 PM GMT-6).
Regional event sites: Prefer Site timezone (or Fixed timezone set to your city) on both weekly and “upcoming only” filters so listings do not roll forward at UTC midnight while your local evening is still the same calendar day.
Conditions and relative “Today”:
- Between + This calendar week — full week window (recommended for a Friday–Thursday featured lineup).
- On or after + Today — keeps events dated today and later.
- After + Today — excludes today (strictly after the current calendar day); use On or after if today’s events should stay visible.
DATE vs Date & time: Relative bounds apply to calendar days in the chosen timezone. Plain Date fields are usually simpler for all-day event listings; Date & time uses start/end of those days as timestamps when filtering.
Works on Table, Repeater, Calendar, Media Gallery, and Slideshow with Wix CMS and external databases. Relative Choose value filters are not added to the page URL when Add as URL query params is on.
Add as URL query params
Keeps search and filters in the page URL. Works with Wix CMS and external databases (Google Sheets, Airtable, Notion).
Widget notes
| Widget | Search looks at |
|---|---|
| Table / Repeater | Text fields shown on the display |
| Calendar | Title and Details fields |
| Slideshow | Title / Text / Button label when mapped |
| Media Gallery | Mapped searchable fields for the gallery mode |
You can filter on fields that aren’t shown in the display.
Notes
- Search, sort, Dependent filters, and Add as URL query params work on Wix CMS and external database connections.
- v6.0 changed how Table and Repeater search & filters are stored. After a major update, re-check filter settings on existing widgets.
